Stephen Fry supports Greenpeace free speech pledge

31 05 2017

More than 100 authors including Stephen Fry, Margaret Atwood, Ian McEwan and Julian Barnes have lent their support to Greenpeace's free speech pledge, signing a public appeal after the charity was threatened with lawsuits filed by a Canadian logging company over Greenpeace's criticism of its logging in Canada's Great Northern Forest.

By signing the pledge, the writers are supporting the work of people around the world who fight to protect the world's forests and condemning 'corporate lawsuits designed to bully and intimidate', and Fry commented 'Speaking as a serial blasphemer, I take freedom of speech very seriously. It’s not just about the satisfaction you get from speaking your mind, it’s also about telling uncomfortable truths that need to be heard, and Greenpeace has been incredibly successful at exposing what the powers that be want to keep secret'.
